Spring Summer Skincare!

With warmer climes comes longer days and more sun exposure so it's important to reassess your skincare for the brighter days, says Neelam Keswnai, CEO and Founder, Glamazle.com.

A change of season typically means a change in the way skin behaves and there are no shortcuts to beauty. While spring is here and summer is fast approaching, no better time than right now to switch up your beauty regime. A clear face sans eruptions and supple skin require constant nurturing both topical as well as internal. Here are a few tips to follow to keep your skin glowing through the hotter months.

SPF SPF SPF – you will hear me say this all year round, but now that the weather is warmer, we are likely be outside more and therefore, there’s more of an emphasis on sunscreen. Make sure you know which one works for your face and which one for your body, because sometimes the formula for your body can cause the skin on your face to break out. Try to include a tinted moisturizer with SPF over a full coverage foundation to allow the skin to breathe. Consider looking for a lightweight moisturizing formula cream that will absorb quickly and therefore be less likely to mix with that surface build up. Also, your daytime moisturizer should protect your skin with broad spectrum SPF protection. You’ll want to shield your summer skin from both UVA and UVB rays so that it is better protected from burns and some skin aging factors.
My personal favorite is The Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer SPF 18. You can also try Just Herbs Sun’nil Jojoba-Grapeseed Moisturising Sun Protection Lotion, Just Herbs NoSun Jojoba-Wheatgerm Moisturising Sun Protection Gel and Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30.

Cleanse twice a day - When the air is hot and humid, your skin may experience more oil than usual. You also may find that you sweat more now compared to previous spring months that were on the milder side. The best skin care regimen to help keep summer skin matte, yet moisturized, should include cleansing twice daily with a foaming or gel-based face wash. First thing in the morning, wash away oil and sweat that can build up on your skin’s surface overnight. And, before bed, remove makeup and then cleanse your skin with your regular face wash. I would recommend Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser, and La Vallée Gentle Cleansing Gel Foamer. The entire range of La Vallee is just a miracle worker.

Toner - Forget those harsh, skin-stripping astringents of the past that relied mainly on alcohol to dry out skin. Today’s toners use a gentler approach, turning to botanical ingredients and essential oils that work as natural astringents whilst hydrating and soothing skin. Post-cleanser, swipe a toner-soaked cotton ball over oil-prone areas like your t-zone. You can also use a face mist to cool your face. Currently I use Khadi Natural Mint & Cucumber face spray during the day and before I sleep I clean my face with Just Herbs Pomegranate Mandarin Pore Tonique to remove any excess oil that can clog my pores.

Eliminate Excess Exfoliation - Sloughing off the top, dead layer of skin may reveal a brighter complexion, but it can also make your skin more sensitive to the sun, If you spend a lot of time outside, you should still exfoliate since dead skin mixed with sweat and sebum is a recipe for clogged pores—just stick to once or twice a week and use a gentle scrub with smooth particles. A good pick for this will be Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser which can double for cleansing and exfoliating.

Stay Hydrated – Forget expensive creams and treatments; drinking water is one of the best things you can do to keep your skin looking young and glowing all year long. Staying hydrated promotes skin circulation at its base so that skin repair doesn't decrease. If you feel like you're constantly overloading on lotion with no results, drinking more water every day could improve your condition.
