TeleLIFE cues you into packs and scrubs that will protect your skin and hair this summer.

Humidity accompanies the intense summer heat; this makes the skin and hair sticky. Humidity mixed with pollution can be very harmful for our skin and hair.

Skin Sizzle

So, here’s what you can do to keep your face fresh and hair glowing during the summer season:

CLEANSE: Keep your skin clean. Too much of cleansing, however, can cause excess production of sebum and thus increase the oiliness and acne associated with it. Try a gel-based face wash that does not affect the natural moisture of your face.

  • Use a papaya pulp face scrub or an oatmeal scrub to keep away blackheads and whiteheads from your face.

TONE: It is necessary to tone your facial skin to maintain its natural ph balance. Use a good anti-bacterial toner as it’s easy for air and waterborne bacteria to attack your skin during the humid summer months. Do this before bedtime.

  • Rose water with a pinch of camphor and lemon juice or lemon peels are extremely good toners.

EXFOLIATE: Excessive humidity leads to extra oiliness. It is important to remove the oiliness in order to prevent breakouts.

  • Use a gentle scrub depending on your skin type every alternate day.

MOISTURISE: The skin gets dehydrated due to the constant humidity.

  • Use a combination of rosewater and strawberry/ orange oil for a natural moisturiser. Leave on for 10 minutes and wash off with cold water. Avoid cream-based moisturisers.

Get Glowing

Here are a few face packs for the season:

1. Whisk one egg white. Mix it with three tbsp of oatmeal powder, and a spoon each of honey and curd to get a smooth paste. Apply the mask and leave it on for 30 minutes.

  • This will keep the skin protected from infections and remove excess oil.

2. Mash half a ripe banana. Grind a handful of mint leaves. Mix well. Apply it on the face and leave on for 30 minutes.

  • This will keep the skin smooth and supple, and free of infections.

3. Add two tbsp of rice to a few cups of hot water. After 10 minutes, strain and grind the rice to form a paste. Add one tbsp curd. Apply this paste and leave on for 20-30 minutes.

  • Rice helps to hydrate, exfoliate and soothe the skin.

Mane Magic

  • Avoid using chemical-based shampoos to prevent excessive hair fall.
  • Follow a diet which is rich in vegetables, fruits, and proteins to nourish your hair.
  • Wash your hair at regular intervals to avoid stickiness.
  • Use a conditioner after a hair wash. Conditioning helps get rid of frizzy hair caused by humidity.
  • Always towel dry your hair completely. Use of hair dryers should be limited.
  • Avoid brushing your hair when it’s wet; it tends to break very easily. Also, don’t tie your hair up when it’s wet.
  • Avoid hair colouring or other hairstyling, as harsh chemicals damage hair and increase hair fall.
